Dorchester County Health Department (DHCD) July Update (highlights below)

    • Extreme Heat is here. Distribution of free cool-down kits and educational materials for prioritized populations is ongoing. We are so thankful for all our partners that serve as our county cooling centers and hydration stations each summer. Special shout out to our CPD and HPD officers for helping us distribute cooling kits this holiday weekend. If you’re interested in receiving cooling supplies or educational materials for your organization or clients, please contact La’Toya Jackson at [email protected]! Heat-related illness is preventable. Please monitor and share updates related to our county cooling centers from the Dorchester County Health Department Facebook page and check on your neighbors this weekend.
    • Health Education: Join Us for the FREE Health Rocks Summer Camp in July for youth ages 8 to 12. When: July 20th – 24th, 2026. Time: 11 A.M. – 4 P.M. Daily. Where: Thendara 4-H Park, 6275 Lords Crossing Road, Hurlock, MD 21643. Sign up at: https://forms.gle/ZMC8LnHRhn7JR6h7A

    • DCHD Climate and Health continues to recruit Community Champions for the local Environmental Justice Council
    • DCHD Climate Ready Youth Committee is now recruiting for their Fall Cohort. If you have a child in middle school or high school interested in climate and health topics, please register them for this 10-week program starting on September 14https://forms.gle/WcyZPc6oi55XJ9BeA. Transportation is provided
    • Respiratory Tests: FREE rapid at-home COVID/flu tests remain available to the public M-F from 8am-4:30 pm at 627 Race Street. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need OTC kits or masks for your organization or clients.
    • Invite the Dorchester County Health Department to your event, request a speaker, or get materials by filling out the form at https://dorchesterhealth.org/invite. Please submit at least 4 weeks in advance. 
    • Free adult vaccines are available at Dorchester County Health Department at 627 Race St. in Cambridge for those without full insurance coverage. Call 410-228-3223 to schedule.
    • The new fiscal year brings new DHCD climate and health workshops (to include planetary health diets and addressing climate anxiety). If your community group is interested in learning more about these topics, please fill out this interest form or contact Theresa Perry at [email protected].
